woman vs chair - round 5

As mentioned in my previous post I lost the last round against my chair but my inner Tim Gunn was telling me to make it work. So I packed my sewing machine and drove over to a friends place and let her mom guide me through the sewing part. Under her guidance I pinned and sewed all the pieces together myself. Unfortunately we couldn't get the lower thread on my machine to work properly so we had to use her machine, I need to read the manual for my machine and figure it out later. Phew! I did it! And it wasn't even as hard as I thought. On Thursday I will start stapling the fabric back onto the chair and as long as I did my sewing correctly it should be smooth sailing from here. Guess I will find out on Thursday...

For the photos I just put the sewn fabric loosely over the plywood pieces just to give me an idea what the chair will look like once it is finished. It is not looking too bad actually. Can't wait to sit in it!

  1. It looks so good! Tim would be so proud of you. Total Project Runway moment. It does look really, really great and go you for you not giving up and letting the chair win! Can't wait to see it when it's all stapled and finished.

  5. I'm writing here incase you won't see my comment from my blog. But I already found the blackening stuff, so you don't need to ask you Gran. One friend told me where I could find it and I already used it and it was just the thing I needed. I will blog about it later :)
    Thanks for that tip!

  6. Erin, yes total Project Runway moment. Maybe I should consider applying for the next season ;) Unfortunately since they moved the show over to Lifetime I keep forgetting to tune in. Hope they'll have an all day marathon with the allstar season soon so I can catch up. It's so great that Austin Scarlett is still in. Rode on the elevator (in my office building) with him twice and was super giddy and wanted to tell him that I loved his dress made from corn husks.

Leena, great that the blackening of the cooktop worked!

Santa, I'm super excited about tomorrow's class because I think I can finish either the backrest or the seat. Yay! How are your chairs coming along?

  7. As much as I have enjoyed Project Runway All Stars, I MISS TIM GUNN. Can't wait for him to come back for the real deal...which can't start soon enough in my opinion.

I am super impressed that you are doing this. I've had the fabric to recover a stupid ottoman (basically a fat rectangle) for MONTHS and haven't done a thing about it. Maybe it's time for me to make it work!
