week twenty three

My apologies for posting late! I had a busy weekend, which started with an unlimited brunch (food & drink). From there we headed over to a bar at Times Square to watch Germany play Portugal in the UEFA cup. Not that I'm big on soccer but every two years I cheer for "my" team. And after the game I picked up my friend K, who flew in from Germany and is staying with us for the week. Sunday we headed over to the mall and did some hardcore shopping...

Last week P and I booked tours of Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. We'll be heading to PA in the fall to check out the houses and will also spend a couple of days in Pittsburgh. Coincidentally last week also marked Frank Lloyd Wright's 145th birthday! Do you like to look at great architecture and interiors like me? What has been the coolest place you have seen so far? Mine was definitely the Stahl House in LA by Pierre Koenig. You can see some of the places I've checked out in my stalking architecture column.

  1. Unlimited brunch!? That sounds dangerous and delightful!

  2. I'm interested in architecture and design and I like to look at such pictures from the web, but I never go to any actual building. I've been meaning to go here: http://www.alvaraalto.fi/aaltohouse.htm forever, it's even very close to where I live. I don't know why I cannot make myself go.

  3. Oh fun! Your weekend sounds so wonderful, everything a weekend should be. I watched the UEFA game, too! I love soccer, wish they showed more of it in the states (and I don't mean the US teams!). If you like Frank Lloyd Wright I just read a book called "The Women" by T.C. Boyle that follows his life and career and his 3 volatile marriages. It's historical fiction and it's so, so good. I think you'd really like it! It gets into great detail of his house in the mid-west, too. It might be right up your alley!

  4. I'm so excited for you to see Falling Water. I would love to take a tour. Hope you'll come back and share some photos. Pretty please. ;) I actually have two prints of his work in our house. There is a FLW home here in Southern California that you can tour. There is an Eames home, as well. I really should make those two tours happen. Thanks for the inspiration, Nina!

  5. rooth, it was really yummy but dangerous because they kept serving the cocktails by the pitcher ;)

onshore, you have to go check it out! But on the other hand I've been meaning to visit Phillip Johnson's glass house, which isn't too far from here for the last nine years ;)

Erin, thanks for the book tip! Need to put it on my reading list. I read a book about his life, he was quite the womanizer...

Theresa, the Eames house is on my list too! I have seen the exteriors of the Barnsdall house and the Ennis house in LA. The Ennis house is a private residence so we just peeked from the street ;)

  6. I'm like onshore...I'm interested in architecture and I love being in a well designed building (esp. museums and such) but I've never been to a architect's house or something like that. I'd love to go there though!

Über das Fussball-Plakat musste ich doch etwas schmunzeln...Deutschland & Engineering gehört in Amerika einfach zusammen, oder?
