ohny - one museum mile

Yesterday I started the Blogging Your Way Boot Camp to whip me and my little blog into shape and our first assignment is to write three posts this week that cover certain topics. For my first post I picked something I am passionate about, which is the architecture and design surrounding us in everyday life. I like to walk around and just absorb my environment and then start dreaming about living in that cute little house or the old factory or whatever comes my way, sometimes my imagination runs wild and I start decorating "my" new digs.

Last weekend was the 10th annual Open House New York weekend and it was my fourth time volunteering for the event. As I previously mentioned in another post OHNY is dedicated to give New Yorkers and tourists alike the chance to experience the architecture of the city. Participating locations range from historic landmarks to private residences and everything in between. If you are not located in New York or anywhere close to it you can also check if your city is part of open house worldwide.

On Saturday I worked my volunteer shift with Santa at One Museum Mile, a residential building which will be eventually housing the Museum for African Art on the first four floors. The building was designed by a renowned team including Robert A.M. Stern Architects, LLP, Andre Kikoski Architects and SLCE Architects. Some of the apartments were staged in collaboration with Lignet Roset and are also up for sale. If you see something you like and can afford to part with a million or two or three contact CORE. Yes, CORE from HGTV’s Selling New York. There you got me on another passion of mine watching anything home or real estate related on TV ;)

Are you a “peeping tom” like me who loves peeking into other people's homes?

  1. I am a total complete and absolute peeping tom. I love nothing more than peeking inside other peoples houses. There's a wonderful line from Under the Tuscan Sun where Frances Mayes where she and her sisters ask each other about houses they've seen, "What did it look like?" and really mean "What is she (the owner) like." Windows into our souls, our homes our and how we inhabit our worlds. I never tire watching people trying to find and change their spaces and peeking inside. Somehow, better understanding my own. Whew!

    2. Peeping toms unite! I also think that you can see a little what the owner is like by looking at their home and yes it helps with understanding your own. Sometimes it also makes me want to change everything about my place ;)

  2. Whoa! So cool, and I loved the part about CORE (as you know I am a total Selling New York junkie.) I love the rooftop and the views, and I think it's a great place to plop down in a Bertoia chair or two and take it all in. I definitely mentally design/re-design "my" spaces all the time. :) xo

    1. Ha, ha I knew you would appreciate the part about CORE. Unfortunately none of the agents we saw on Saturday have been on TV or at least I never saw them. Luckily it wasn't the guys from Million Dollar Listing NY because I might have had to tell them how douchy they are ;)

    1. Yes, some volunteer with us next year. It's fun and as a perk you can skip the lines at the sites and don't have to wait if they are really long.

  4. Oh, if I'm on your street, you'd BETTER put your blinds down as that is one of my favourite past times. Your pictures are great (I'm in the middle of editing mine)

  6. I'm a peeping tomette too (my husband thinks I might need therapy)! I particularly love peering into people's houses when I come home from work and everyone is sitting down to or cooking dinner. Now, in other news, what do I have to do to get a view like that?

    1. Lol, I might need therapy then too ;) To get a view like that you have to shell out at least a millions bucks to get a studio apartment but the one we saw didn't have views of the park.

  8. Those rooftop pictures are lovely! I definitely peep into people's houses when I'm walking or driving around at night. I heard about an artist who photographs as a peeping tom for a living - makes for some interesting pictures :)
