week twenty eight

Good morning week 29! Can you believe we passed the halfway mark of this year already? Didn't this year just start and I had all these dreams of finishing projects around the house or refinishing my street and estate sale finds? Oh well life happened and things did not necessarily turn out the way I hoped but there are still 24 weeks left to work on said projects. Actually I already started one of the projects on Sunday on a whim and immediately started to regret my decision. Originally we had planned to have the door stripped by somebody else and I would be refinishing it myself but yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to do it myself. Argh, it is not fun to scrape off old paint goo that has the consistency of a roasted marshmallow but I am sure that the effort will be worth it once the door is finished. Unfortunately it will take a while because I haven't even finished stripping one side if the door. On Saturday I had a pretty relaxed day, first hanging out with a friend in Dumbo and then taking the ferry up the East River to meet with P and another friend in Williamsburg, were we walked around but mostly hung out at the Spritzenhaus to play some Jenga and drink a beer. Hope you had a great weekend. Was your weekend more like my relaxed Saturday or work filled like my Sunday? Or something in between?

  1. Since Cal had strep throat, our weekend was definitely more like your Saturday than your Sunday. Can I say, I hope never to have a weekend like your Sunday? ;) I loathe sanding and stripping something like that sounds like my worst nightmare. Good on you, Miss Nina! You'll be so happy and proud when it's done!

    1. Oh no! Hope Cal is feeling better! I do not mind sanding but the stripping part is my nightmare but now that I started I cannot rest until it is finished...

  2. Good for you for starting that door! At least it's now moving forward...
We call the jenga-game a "wobbling tower" in Finnish by the way :)

    1. Now that I finally started to work on that door I can't stop until it's done. My goal is to have it finished when my parents are coming to visit in September.

  3. That door project looked super intense on Instagram, you are a DIY warrior for undertaking it! There is always light at the end of the tunnel, though. Having just finished our major stair project, I can vouch that it eventually ends! Here's to week 29!

    1. I might just be a stupid diy'er for undertaking that door project. I googled and saw so many people making it sound so easy when they stripped and old door. Let me tell you it is not, especially when you are baking outside ;) Oh, can we see your stairs? I still want to paints ours but that is a winter project...

    1. Here is to more Saturdays, at least when they are lazy! I can't wait to see what that door can become either, so it will be more stripping for me this weekend...

  5. Nina, it was great having you over in Dumbo this weekend and catch up. Too bad you did not have a good find in the vintage store - Anjulie looks so cute in the bathing suit btw :)

  6. Mine is always a little bit of work mixed in with play. Last weekend it was cleaning hard water build up from shower doors - an exercise I'd like to not repeat again soon!

    1. Your scrubbing project doesn't sound like fun either but it is always a good feeling when you're finished with things like that. Your shower doors must sparkle now!
