Yes, this is my last vacation related post at least for now. P and I both to love road trips and I frequently take pictures out of the car. This is what happens, there are reflections from the window shield and dashboards, wipers and rear view mirrors get in the way. On highways you mostly do not get to see that much besides cars and signs so I like driving down country roads...
These photo-realistic paintings by Linden Frederick remind me of road trips we have taken. See a selection of his work below. They look like someone could have stopped somewhere in small town America and taken a photo. The low light paintings seem eerily deserted yet make me wonder what happens in the buildings or around them.
Are you fans of road trips too? What is your next destination?

I love the light in these last few photos, Nina. That deep purple twilight. And you should totally frame that "Motel" shot into a print! It's gorgeous! So funny that I totally remember the Zzxzy exit sign from our move back east years and years ago!
ReplyDeleteLauren, the last 4 pictures are actually paintings by Linden Frederick. I wish I could take photos like that let alone paint them ;) They look so real they fooled me the first time I saw them too...
DeleteZzxzy, it's such a weird name. Who would name a street like that? And how is it pronounced anyways? ;)
DeleteI really like the second to last picture - I think I could write a story around that picture alone
ReplyDeleteIf you do write a story about it please share ;)
ReplyDeleteWait, those are paintings?? Spooky! There's really a street name Zzxzy? How does one even pronounce that? I imagine it's like a sneeze, you just jumble the letters together all at once and hope for the best :) Imagine trying to tell someone your address if you lived there, haha. Great photos at the top, and thank you for turning me onto Linden's work. Those are really stunning (not as stunning as yours, but close ;)
ReplyDeleteOh I just looove road trips (especially if someone else is doing the driving!) These images are great- especially the second one. And are those really paintings and not photos?! I have to go look now.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Nina. The last 3 photos are so beautiful. I loved following your road trip pics on IG. xx
ReplyDeleteNina-
ReplyDeleteI've passed that Zzyzx sign many times! I like road trips once I'm on them but I stress about them before. We're taking one to Napa in September so I'll be posting about that for sure! Teri
Before reading the post, I thought those paintings were photographs! Frederick's work is really beautiful. Though, I do love any photorealism work. It's so fascinating to me.
ReplyDeleteI also love a good ol' fashion road trip. My family took many of them when I was growing up. Once From California to Alabama...Three whole days! "Are we there yet?"
Loving these "from the car" photos. :)
Well, Nina, have a wonderful weekend!
Just returned from a road trip from Norway :) We too take pics from the car, usually those end up horrible looking but some look excellent.
ReplyDeletewow, Nina, some of these pics look like postcards. The motel in the middle of the night and the corner store pic are so beautiful and serene. When will beaming work eventually?
ReplyDeleteamazing artist! Ive enjoyed your Insta feed, love road trips!
