So this is the time to talk about new
years resolutions and goals
for the year ahead but I didn’t think about making a list
until now. My only resolution for this year is to go to the gym
more regularly. Although have been paying my membership fees I haven't been
there in two months. Shame on me! It is not about loosing weight but to
stay fit & healthy and my body deserves being taken care of. Most of all I would like to accomplish some goals that I set for myself this year and of course I will blog about my progress or the lack thereof. Without further ado, here is my list of goals:
around the house:
-paint our stairs
-paint doors on first floor (5 total) & install door handles & matching hinges
-paint upstairs window frames (8 total)
around the blog:
-be more structured & incorporate more regular columns
-post 3-5 times a week
-finally get my menu bar under the header
-add an about page
Those are the main goals and they are hopefully attainable. I didn't want to publish a list that sets me up for failure. I also wrote a list of everything that I like to get done around the house eventually a while back and that list is 4 pages long. Plus a list of all the furniture pieces in the basement that are waiting to receive some love and attention. Some pieces are already halfway done, so maybe I'll get a motivational push and finish the rest. The only thing I know is that I want to enjoy the coming year and not feel overwhelmed by the things I set out to do...
Did you set goals for yourself this year? Are you swearing off any vices? Not that any of you has one ;)
These all sound great, Nina! We have that four page long list for our house too! Some of the things on it might get saved for the next owners! Did you ever read The Happiness Project? I follow Gretchen Rubin on twitter and she tweeted just this week the brilliant idea of gyms charging less the more you went to see if people went more...Interesting! Happy New Year and have a great weekend, dear!
ReplyDeleteHa, ha I think I might leave some of the work on the list for the next owners too. I have not read The Happiness Project but it is on my list of books to read. Maybe I have to suggest that idea at my gym about charging less the more I go ;)
Deletei think that is so smart nina. i agree if i make a list of goals that are too extensive i am afraid i give up before i even get started and won't accomplish any of them because realistically i know i can't accomplish all of them. so, like you, i make little goals and then after i get those done i often feel really great about myself and want to do more ; ) i do need to also make a 4 page list of things to do around my house, just for reference :)
ReplyDeleteIt is so discouraging, at least to me, if I can't cross things off my list that's why I kept it short this year. If I cross everything off I can still add things later. Hopefully the short list will keep me motivated throughout the year.
DeleteOh my god I have a laundry list of "blog resolutions" that I have to accomplish this year and it's gonna take a good amount of work and time. But worth it in the end? I think so
ReplyDeleteI have more blog resolution too but want to start with the main ones. I agree it will be wort it in the end!
DeleteYou think YOUR gym absence is bad, J has been paying his membership for 13 months and hasn't gone! He didn't go ONCE in 2012! Thankfully it's just our local YMCA but still, it's not free! I love your list and think you are more than able to accomplish everything on there. The good thing is all those around-the-house projects will be good content for the blog, thus fulfilling your goal to blog 3-5 times a week! I'd love to read an About page, I hope you tackle that soon! Have a great weekend, doll. xoxo
ReplyDeleteNow I don't feel bad about not going to the gym anymore ;) Getting the house projects done will definitely be good blog content, my plan is to actually tackle a mini makeover once a month.
DeleteI'm right along with you on the gym..bought my membership over a year ago and have been... five times, woops!
ReplyDeleteI heard about this app for iPhones that pools together a bunch of people and holds you accountable for missing the gym. You have to pay different amounts of $ if you skip your gym appointment - and if you go and someone else doesn't, YOU get paid. Sounds like motivation enough to me! :)
Cheers!
A friend told me about that app but I don't have an iPhone, maybe that's a good way to get motivated. My health insurance also offers an incentive, when you go 50 times in 6 months. I made that once or twice years ago and received a $200 check :) I am trying to get one this year again!
DeleteThat is exactly why I haven't joined any gym. I do yoga once a week in the workers academy, it's cheap :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't done a goals list. I have a few goals in my mind, but those are not set in stone and I like them that way.
Yoga is something I want to try too. I need something to calm me down at the end of the day but my gym only offers it during the day when I at the office. Not having any goals set in stone for this year is good, no pressure for you this year!
DeleteHi, Nina! Your goals sound very realistic and I think you did a great job keeping things manageable. (I may have failed at that task. ;) I created a list of goals, but am leaving room for changes and tweaks; Much can happen and evolve in 365 days, right? ;) I just really enjoy the act of sitting down and mapping out the year ahead. The ritual of it makes me fell calm, for whatever reason. I'm looking forward to spending another great year with No 40!
ReplyDeletePS~Regarding the blog, you might be interested in purchasing a theme from Blog Milk. They're not too expensive and it would get you the About Page and Menu Bar you want. Happy 2013!
Yes, this year is all about attainable goals but there is still room for more to add on later...Thanks for the tip with looking at the Blog Milk themes. I have looked at them and some others but can't pull the trigger yet. Oh, the inability to make decisions is something I need to work on in 2013 as well.
Deletesame here regarding my blog: more updates and some template enhancements! I might ask a freelancer to help me with that :-)
ReplyDeleteI want to start Pilates and also want to go more often to the gym! It is just that blogging more and going to the gym more just doesn't work together that well :-(.
I also want to either rent a new apt but preferably buy one this year! Went to the first open house last Sunday!
