week thirty two

Another week has flown by, so fast that I totally forgot to post on Friday. Ooops! Saturday we went to relax at the beach with a group of friends and had dinner on the boardwalk in Asbury Park. I washed down the food with a delicious cucumber and gin concoction, so good. On Sunday I got a little closer to my goal to finishing the dresser for the living room before mid September. The body, as well as the legs got another round of sanding and by the end of the day I was able to stain all the pieces. Now I only have to oil the whole shebang and I will be done.Trying to knock that out this week while watching tv in the evenings, so I can start the next project on my list. Talking about my to-do list this weekend I added another project to it, as if I don't have enough already. I found a little stool at an estate sale. Originally I just stopped by the sale because I needed an old pot to use for stripping the hardware of the old door I am still working on. I want to give the crockpot method I found on This Old House a try. Will definitely let you know if it works or not. This past weekend was the perfect mixture of work and play but next time I should work on Saturday and relax on Sunday, my arms are still sore from sanding like a maniac and I could have used the extra day to recuperate. What was your weekend like? In any case here is to another great week and crossing projects off to-do lists!

  1. Hey Nina, totally not what I was going to post but Neel and I were watching Bath Crashers (cause that's where we are right now!) and they used this stuff *instead* of sanding. Wiped it on...some kind of liquid. It might not help you because they were painting over that ugly builder's pine, but it might be worth looking into.

Anyhoo. Still haven't found me a coffee table? ;) Also, do you ever stop? XO

    1. I will definitely look into the liquid sanding stuff, have some more projects that need sanding or just a little roughing up to be painted over. Btw I won't stop going to estate sales until I find you that coffee table ;) xo

  2. i tried sanding the little desk i found but after awhile i gave up. i went and bought some paint stripper (maybe what lauren is talking about it) it's not friendly stuff but i am hoping it will work better. after about an hour of sanding we maybe got halfway done and that was with two sanders! curse double coats of blue paint! ;)

    1. Can't wait to see the desk once your finished with it. I have tried two strippers on my door and have found that Citristrip works best. Left it sitting on the door for at least 4 hours and put wax paper over it so it stayed moist.

  3. I am always in awe of your weekend projects - I need to take a leaf from your book and just get on with it! Lovely coat in that picture btw! P.S I am very intrigued by Lauren's comment about Bath Crashers?

    1. I am sure there will be weekends soon where I will not do anything besides hanging out and relaxing. You will be very busy soon when you arrive in Australia, you have to unpack etc. Rest up until then!
