grandma's sewing box

This sewing box from the 50ies or 60ies used to be my grandmother's. She didn't need it anymore and gave it to me because I had been admiring it for a looong time. It is like a treasure trove, some of the things inside must be around 50 years old...I don't think I'll ever need to buy yarn, buttons or sewing needles ever again in my life. Now I just need to start to learn how to sew ;)

I brought the box over as my carry on luggage on the last flight back from Germany. Luckily the legs can be detached. Of course I emptied out any sharp object, which I put in the checked bag...

Do you have any treasures you inherited from family members?

  2. This is a great treasure. We're lucky enough to have many things from my grandparents, but one of my favorites is a small chest of drawers that sits in my living room with a lamp on it. Love wondering what sorts of things used to be kept in those drawers!

  3. What an AMAZING treasure! I luv it!!! How r u planning on using it? Still for sewing? You sew? It is absolutely beautiful (looks in great condition too!!!). My treasures from the past are jewelry, no furniture ... that I can remember right now (it is early in the morning .... I may not be fully awake) :)

  5. Ada, I think I'll keep it for sewing storage. Can't sew yet but recently gotten a sewing machine to work on my skills. Already have big plans ;)

  6. Wow the sewing box is so pretty. I've never seen a similar design, just those that open upwards not to sides.

  7. Wow - this box is really cool! The one from my granny was more on the kitschy side :) And I love to see the contents too! Buttons have been my favorite since I was a child!
