My latest estate sale find is definitely in the category one man's trash is another man's treasure. That Sunday I went to two sales, both were picked clean and I was pretty bummed out that I couldn't snag a cheap big pot. Getting a pot for cleaning up the hardware of the old door I stripped was the only reason we went to the sales, luckily they were in close proximity to each other. Then I saw the stool and although the seat was broken I had a vision of making my own seat for it. I already bought some rope and am playing around with ideas. Once the stool is finished it will make an appearance in the mini makeover category. At the same sale they had an old workbench that would have made an amazing island in someones kitchen but it was too big for our car so it had to stay behind. Maybe I need to invest in a van or a trailer? ;) Still looking for a cheap pot though, might have to try Target or other places because I want to hang the door again before my parents arrive next month. Is anyone else working on a cool project? I know that Christine of The Plumed Nest is working on the desk she found on the curb. Can't wait to see what she did with it.

estate sale finds - dresser with a surprise
Of course I could not stop going to estate sales, even during my blog absence, and this dresser is my latest find. Originally I wanted to go to that sale because they had some mid-century modern pieces but I went there on the last day pretty much in the last hour. Obviously all the goodies I had admired online were sold already. Instead this dresser caught my eye because I think it is a great piece for a mini makeover project. The idea is to paint the dresser and swap out the hardware. Not sure what color I should paint it. Something more neutral like gray or go bold, maybe even try an ombre effect? I still have time to mull it over because I want to finish my door project first and that might take a while. After a little negotiation I was able to buy the dresser for $20 and when it was time to carry it out we noticed one side was heavier than the other. Upon further inspection I realized one drawer was filled with sewing accessories. P told me to just leave it but I thought the items might be useful in one way or another. Once we got home I needed to investigate what extra goodies I had purchased with the dresser and found out I was now owning two button hole feet for Singer sewing machines, an assortment of needles and snap buttons and an egg shaped thingy that is very heavy. Does anybody know what this might be? But the biggest surprise of the day was yet to happen. When I opened the pink box, which contains a sewing machine foot and flipped through the manual, a gold bracelet fell out. The bracelet is marked 14k gold and of course I had to google how much it might be worth. I put the bracelet on my kitchen scale and with the help of an online calculator determined the gold is worth about $170. Have you every watched Storage Wars? I pretty much felt like the Storage Wars crew when they find a treasure in their lockers.
Next step is to figure out what color(s) to paint the dresser. I might want to use my vintage white porcelain cabinet pulls (similar) on this piece that I bought at an estate sale a while back. If you have any suggestions please feel free to share and also if you have any ideas what this egg shaped thingy could be let me know.
Happy Friday and have a great weekend everybody! Do you have any plans? My plan is to keep the door project moving, which means cleaning off the stripper residue and start sanding.

estate sale finds - metal cabinet
It is finally Friday! This work week just zoomed by in an instant. Guess that happens when you are busy. Because I did not prepare a proper post for today I will leave with some photos of my latest estate sale find, a metal cabinet with a glass door. Once I have scrubbed it, it will look great in the kitchen.
Have a lovely weekend! What are your plans? I will be trying to get all the items ready I want to sell at a flea market next months. Me and a bunch of friends decided to set up tables together and use the day to chat and make a little extra cash from items that we do not use anymore. Already did this the last year with one friend and it was a fun day...

estate sale finds - lane acclaim table

Since I already found so many treasures at estate sales I thought I would share them with you in a series of posts. So far I have only showed a piece here and there on Instagram. Actually I wrote about my very first estate sale I attended with Santa last year in September. Since then I have attended a bunch more and became quite obsessed with the hunt for hidden treasures. One of the treasures I found is this Lane Acclaim coffee table, which was sitting in a basement covered in dust. Even though it was pretty rough around the edges I liked the details and the size of the table. Because I did not want to refinish the table I used the trusted method from Morgan of The Brick House to refresh vintage wood. I tried it out previously on other pieces, the first one was the desk I found on my way to work. My coffee table had some kind of varnish finish so I was afraid of sanding it lightly as suggested and instead used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to scrub of the grime, after a good scrub I followed Morgan's instructions. Once I was finished I gave myself a pat on the shoulder for making this table pretty again. Of course the coffee table does not look like a new piece of furniture now but I do not mind that it has dings and other imperfections. It is a piece with history, that has been sitting in someones living room about 50 years ago and I love it for exactly those reasons.
Happy weekend y'all! Do you have any fun plans lined up? The main thing I have planned is to finish the gray dresser, that some of you might have seen on Instagram and in Mondays weekly recap...
