first estate sale loot

As I already mentioned on Monday I went to my very first estate sale with Santa from homestilo.I don't know why I have never been to one but now I am hooked and I want to go again. We were there on the last day only a couple of hours before they closed and were able to negotiate all items down at least 50%. With these sales it is probably hit and miss but the first one was a success and I bought a metal cabinet, metal box and two travel books with amazing photographs of places I might never get a chance visit. I am still on the fence on what to do with the cabinet, should I paint it or keep the patina? The colors look great together but maybe another color would work as well. Guess first I will have to give it a good scrubbing and see how it will look once the grime is off. Any suggestions about keeping the patina or giving it a new coat of paint?

My parents are arriving tomorrow and will stay for two weeks. Looking forward to spending time with them! I haven't seen them since January...

  1. great hunts! Love the cabinet. I probably would keep it as it is for now. You can always paint it in the future...maybe white?

    1. Thank you! I am definitely keeping the cabinet as is for now but white always is a good option as well!

  2. Uuu... the box! I've been looking for one to use as a sewing box (I have a plastic one now and it's hideous)
The cabinet is cool, whether you paint it or not might depend a bit on what you decide to use it for or where you plan to keep it. I wouldn't for example want to keep clean sheets in it if it was as patina-ted. But lets say for shoes it works fine as is.
You could also consider removing the paint altogether and varnish the metal.

    1. Like the box too! Not sure what I am going to use it for but it was only one dollar, so I couldn't pass it up. I want to use the cabinet in the hallway close by our front door. My plan is to put a bowl on top to keep my keep my keys etc...

  3. What a fab find!! I defintiely wouldn't paint the cabinet - the colours are PERFECT and it's all part of the industrial charm. Everyone over there seems to be going to these sale - I want in too (not so easy from Malmö, Sweden!).

  4. I still think you got one of the coolest pieces ever at that sale with that cabinet. And I say live with the cabinet (with it's patina) for a while. You may even decide later on to paint it in similar colours.
Oh, and hope you have a lovely visit with the folks!

  5. SO amazing! That cabinet is incredible. I'd say just clean it to death with a brillo pad and some strong soapy water and then leave it as is, part of its charm is how chipped and vintage it is. Maybe a coat of varnish to seal it? Awesome finds. So exciting about your parents coming to visit!

  6. Hrrrmmm... what colour would you paint it? It definitely would look good either way. Just depends on what goes with the colour scheme of the room you're putting it in

  7. Hm, maybe live with the patina for a spell; It's really beautiful. Then when you tire of it, you can paint it, and have a new cabinet. ;) You definitely found some great stuff. I think you and Homestilo are ready for Brimfield.
PS~Yay to parents visiting - Enjoy!

    1. Will keep the patina as is for now and who knows if I am going to paint the cabinet in the future. You're so right it would turn it into a new one should I tire of the old look. I need work on my haggling skills before I hit Brimfield. I will definitely enjoy my parents visit!
