NJoy - pier c in hoboken

I can't believe that it is already time for another NJoy post.

Last year Pier C park in Hoboken (re-)opened. Now you wonder what is so special about another park. The answer is that is a man made island in the Hudson river. I love walking around on it or hang out on the benches and watch the big city on the other side of the river. It doesn't matter if it is day or night the view is always spectacular. The park was designed by Michael Van Valkenburg Associates for users of all ages, it features a playground, benches to rest and enjoy the view and large grassy area to lay down and soak up the sun. There is even a spot (large round hole) for fishing as well as a table to cut the fish after you caught it. Check out MVVA's website for more photos, they even have a birds eye view shot, and further information on the park.

What are your plans for the upcoming weekend? I will take my parents to Oktoberfest at Central Park tomorrow, which is a yearly tradition we developed with a group of friends and on Sunday we might drive down to the beach. Whatever you do have a great weekend!

  2. That park is spectacular! And the view of Manhattan is amazing, especially with the beams of light shining into the air (I assume that was around the 9/11 anniversary?). That's such a great use of space, and is so good for people that live in the area. Have fun with your parents this weekend! And driving to the beach, too :)

    1. Aren't the views amazing? I took the photo with the light beams a couple of days before the 9/11 anniversary, I believe they start to light them a week before. Had a great weekend with my parents but it was way to short as always ;)

    1. First there is a German-American parade, the Steuben parade, along the park and after everybody gathers in the park for beer and oompha music. I always skip the parade and go straight for the beer ;)

    2. Btw. it does not compare to the Oktoberfest in Munich but I have no first hand experience with that one anyways ;)

    1. Thank you Lauren! When we went to the beach on Sunday I totally forgot to take photos because my mom and I chatted the whole time. Oops! Will remind myself to take more photos on other trips...

  7. Love the shape and the pier looks so nice at nigth time with the lights.
What's the giant light saber beaming up to the sky? It does look good, but I can't help thingking how useless it is and how much light pollution it makes.

    1. The giant light beams are only lit for about a week in remembrance of 9/11, so it is not something that is going on all year round ;) You can only see one of the light beams from my position though. They represent the former world trade center towers in the skyline of NY.

  8. Beautiful photos, Nina. (My favorite one is the last one of the beams shining into the night sky.) You're right, day or night that man-made island offers some amazing views. What a great use of public space.
Have a wonderful time with your parents!!
