week thirty six

The past week flew by as it was a pretty eventful and short week because we had the Monday off. Honestly I could get used to a four day work week. I wouldn't even mind working more hours during those days...

On Thursday I met a friend and two of her friends in Soho to check out this years Fashion Night Out. We had no game plan on what stores we wanted to check out and our first stop ended up being the Marc Jacobs store. They served mini champagne bottles and handed out goody bags with two pairs of fingerless gloves. By the time we decided to leave they had run out of bags but not the goodies so we got the gloves without the bag. Even though I can't afford to shop in most stores we visited I picked a favorite item in every one. At Marni it was a necklace, at Chanel the t-strap flats you can see below, a scarf at Stella McCartney and a bright orange bag at Mulberry. The best part was definitely the people watching, some people had on ridiculous outfits and there were girls in killer heels trying to maneuver the cobble stone streets. I already had a hard time in my flats...

Week thirty-six was also a good week for adding items to my ever growing pile of furniture. First up was the red upholstered Herman Miller shell chair I snapped up on Ebay for only $22. On Saturday I went to my very first estate sale with Santa from homestilo and ended up buying a small metal cabinet, two books and a small metal box. And yesterday was my lucky day because I found a beat up Saarinen chair on the street. We were on the way to visit friends, who invited us for a spontaneous bbq and stopped at a nearby liquor store with our bikes to grab a six pack of beer. That's when I spotted the chair about 40 feet away and got really excited. P didn't share my excitement and entered the store, so I had to keep an eye on the bikes but at the same time couldn't take my eyes of the chair. What if somebody else snatched it before I could get to it? Luckily nobody looked at the chair and I was able to bring it to my friends place, pushing the chair with one hand and the bike with the other. I love trash day in our area!

What did you do this weekend?

    1. I think I might upholster it in the same gray fabric that I used for my first upholstery project but I might change my mind ;)

  3. (shaking my head) the picture I really want to see is of you pushing a chair and riding your bike along side of it. I have to say, I have never met someone with such an eye for brilliant pieces that have been discarded- I smell a second career coming on!

    1. Ha, ha I could become the trash to treasure queen ;) Btw. I didn't ride the bike I had to push it with one hand and the chair with the other. Luckily just for a block...

  4. Holy hell! Beautiful finds from the ebay and especially from the street! You have an eye for looking around. I wouldn't recognice a Saarinen chair even if it was written on it.

    1. Now you know what it looks like, just in case one of your neighbors decides to trash one ;)

  5. I need to hang out with you, you always have the best luck finding awesome stuff on the street!! I'm with Santa, though, I want to see a picture of you pushing the chair in one hand and riding your bike. I'm sure it's as hilarious as I'm imagining. Such dedication! So cool you got to go to FNO. Love those Chanel flats. That metal cabinet you got at the estate sale is AMAZING. Can't wait to see what you come up with for it.

    1. Yes, come treasure hunting with me! I can imagine the picture you two had in your head but I didn't ride the bike, had to push it with one hand and the chair with the other. The chair was pretty squeaky so everybody looked at me...

  6. I love your weekend round-ups! I have to agree with Santa and say that I don't think I have ever seen anyone have so much luck with finding stuff on the street! You should have your own reality show! :) I usually spot something amazing on the street from the car and make my husband drive around the block a couple of times to stalk it (as you can imagine, this is not very popular both with my husband and the following traffic)! Love those Chanel flats too!

    1. Thank you Meghan! Ha, ha I would do the same if I spotted something from the car. So far I made my best finds on foot, it's hard to drag them home on foot though ;)

  8. You are a multi-tasker biker riding w/one hand and navigating the chair w/the other. Too funny! Great finds at the estate sale!!!! I went to my first a few weeks ago and brought some muscle with me (my hubby) to help load the car :)

  9. I'm still in awe of what people in your neighborhood just leave on the sidewalk. Gosh, gives a whole new (elevated) meaning to trash day. I smiled imagining you pushing both your bike and the chair down the street. ;) Let the refurbishing begin!
Your FNO night sounds fun. What a great idea to pick out some of your favorite (fantasy) purchases in each store (that would be my game plan). The t-strap Chanel shoes are lovely!

    1. Apparently people in my area don't know that they have the best treasures in their basements. Their thrash is my treasure ;)
