week thirty three

Week thirty was a busy one, almost every evening after work I worked on the dresser for the living room and this weekend is was finally ready. I even polished the old brass hardware. Love the brass in contrast with the dark wood. We moved the dresser into the living room on Saturday, still need to take good pictures for the blog though. It is standing on the right side of the fireplace and now it is super obvious that the other side of the fireplace needs some attention as well. Another project for my ever growing to-do list ;) Saturday we managed to go to the last day of summer streets in New York: On three Saturdays in August, 7 miles of streets were closed for traffic, and you could bike or walk uninterrupted from Brooklyn Bridge to 72nd street. We walked from 32nd street to 72nd street and back. After our  1.5 hours walk I was pretty pooped, not sure how many miles we walked but it felt like a lot. The Voice Tunnel was part of the summer streets but I took so many photos it'll deserve its own post at the end of the week. Of course a weekend is nothing without some good cake and on Sunday I stopped by the Old German Bakery in Hoboken with my friend Ms. K. I hat a super delicious cheese crumb cake and a Quarkball, thinking about it makes me hungry again...How was your week/weekend? Have a great week thirty four!

  1. Great work Nina! The brass is gorgeous. I totally envy your proximity to NYC, that walk must have been amazing. I have to be better at taking advantage of the things that are near me though. Not good enough at that...you excel!

    1. Yes, living so close to NYC never gets old, although sometimes we rarely go in on the weekends and take advantage of the things it has to offer. Especially during summer time there is so much going on but I unfortunately don't have the time to do everything...

    1. I love being able to walk/bike pretty much everywhere, most of the time I even skip the subway if the weather is nice enough for a walk...

  3. That summer streets thing sounds so neat! Hooray for pedestrians! :) There was an article in the NYTimes this Sunday about Jersey City and it's rising popularity and I immediately thought of you! xo

    1. Thanks for mentioning the article, I looked it up online. There is so much going on here and hopefully the changes will make it a better place to life. Just read in the article that our mayor is younger than me, only by a year though, but that makes me officially feel old ;) xo

  4. i am jealous of all your walkability and all the places you have to choice from to visit too. i do love portland but it sometimes feels like you are stranded on a desert island here.

i love the brass all polished up! i can't wait to see it all done. i really need to find a credenza soon, especially if i am going to refinish it. i don't have a basement so i have to work outside and fall is coming!

    1. In order to walk around in NYC I have to either take a bus, train or ferry, so I have to get off my little "island" as well ;) But our area offer great walkability too.

I did most of the work on the dresser outside too, don't want all the dust from sanding in the basement. That's the reason why I want to sand at least another project before it gets to cold outside.

I am a little jealous of that delicious looking crumb cake- it looks like you had such a fabulous weekend :)

    1. Hooray for booking the flights to NYC! Hope to be able to take photos of the dresser and show them next week. It's all set up for I always feel like all the cables you need for your tv and other gadget ruin the look ;)

  8. Yay yay yay! Can't wait to see the dresser and the promise of brass has me super excited! That's awesome that you can bike a section of NY without the worry of cars once a year, London had something similar a few weeks ago and I am kicking myself for not taking part!

    1. I have to admit that I am a little bit obsessed with brass lately as well. So glad the pulls turned out to be the real deal. Another confession but the summer street event has been going on for years and I never made it until this year ;)
