week two

The first full work week of the new year went by quickly. I had tons of work at the office and at home as well but I still managed to go to the gym twice. One time was even on Sunday morning, yes I am really motivated to get back into a work out routine but we will see how long that will last. This weekend I went to two Estate Sales and of course I didn't leave empty handed. On Saturday I found a coffee table (see photos below) it was sitting in a basement and pretty dusty and beat up but I really liked the dovetail details on the top. Of course I didn't like the price tag and haggled to get it down to a price I thought was fair. Yesterday evening while watching TV I scrubbed the table and after applying teak oil it looks like new, ok not new but so much better. Sunday I stopped at another Estate Sale in my town and came home with a vintage Hawaiian record, a metal file cabinet and a small upholstered bench, that was part of an organ but I had no use for the instrument so I asked if I can only buy the bench and they agreed. So I brought home yet another upholstery project. This has to stop or our basement will be filled to the brim with unfinished projects and you will find me on an episode of Hoarders soon...Saturday we spent most of the day at a restaurant having brunch because our table wasn't ready at the reserved time, it took another 45 minutes for them to get it ready we all got free drinks, so I already started on mimosas before eating and then there were free flowing drinks at the table too. I have to say I m definitely too old to be drinking all day and really could feel it the next day...

What was your weekend like? Have a happy week!

  1. Nina, I know that it takes you a long time to find these little treasures that you collect for your home. How in the world do you have that kind of patience?? I really need to borrow your ninja furniture finding skills for the next few weeks :)

    1. Sometimes it doesn't take a lot of patience at all, my secret is this website, where estate sales in the area are listed, most of the time with photos so you can already get an idea what to expect...Maybe they have some sales in your area as well.

  2. HA, I was wondering about that Instagram of yours that said "brunch" but showed the skies were clearly dark! Makes sense now, and good thing they gave you free drinks. I love all your Estate sale magic, I can't wait to see your next upholstery project in action. Happy week 3!

    1. The brunch was supposed to start at 3:30pm but we didn't sit down until an hour later. I think we left the place at around 8pm. That was more like brinner (breakfast & dinner) and not a brunch ;) My next upholstery class starts on valentines day, so new upholstery projects will come up soon...

  4. Can't drink all day? Then I guess you wouldn't qualify for the Jersey Shore show LOL
I'm so excited for all your estate sale finds. I'm pretty sure if I had a basement I'd be in the same situation as you.

    1. I would be so out of place as a cast member of the Jersey Shore because I'd be asleep after three drinks ;) Let me know if you want to hit up another estate sale soon...

I decided to stop going to estate sales until it got warmer just so I dont stress out o my want-to-do-to-do-list :) btw, I LOVE the spatula (cute!). My weekend was spent at home depot, market, laundry <- which we tried to leave it for saturday so sunday we could simply chill-ax on the sofa :)

    1. A chill Sunday on the sofa sounds divine! It was my first time at the gym on the weekend, not sure if that will be a regular weekend feature...

  6. love the table! sometimes i wish i had a basement but when i remember my old basement i realize i am probably better off that i don't. i would pull furniture off the side of the road and bring to my "work shop" soon i had enough to start my own second hand shop (not that i did that). i miss those projects though and the rescues. there are a few things i am so happy i didn't let up end in a dump somewhere.

    1. Ha, ha I could definitely start my own vintage furniture shop. Actually that's not a bad idea, I could combine my passion for rescuing old furniture and upholstery and hopefully make some money in the process...
