lotta jansdotter for fishs eddy

Two weeks ago I stopped at Fishs Eddy to buy a little present for a friends birthday because I knew I would find something for her there. P and I had gotten her a Ticketmaster gift card that hadn't arrived yet and I was looking for something we could give her instead and make my own gift card to go with it. Luckily I found this little tray that looks like an old movie or concert ticket, which was perfect. I just mounted it on a piece of black foam core and called it a day. Of course I could not leave the store without buying something for myself. I bought a tea towel from the Lotta Jansdotter collection. I really like her designs and did not know she had a collaboration with Fishs Eddy. All items from this collection are blue and I have rounded up some of my favorites below. I can really identify with her approach to design, which is Can’t find what you want? Make it! Don’t know how? Learn it!, although most of the time I don't follow through with my ideas and make them a reality. It's something I should really change! Is her motto something you can relate to? Do you own anything that features one of Lotta Jansdotter's prints?

  1. Her designs feel so fresh and vintage all at the same time. I absolutely love the design philosophy you've shared here as well. Inspirational and motivational (things I could really use right now)

    1. Oh, you hit it right on the head with the vintage yet fresh feel. I couldn't find the right words to express exactly what you said.

  2. I had never even heard of her and then I read about her from the link you provided and what do I see!? She is Finnish! Or atleast was born here. From her name I thought she is from Iceland.
I can truly relate to her motto, although I don't know if it's such a good motto for someone who tries to sell their work to other people.

    1. Ha, ha you have a point! But I think that motto brought her to where she is today, she might not have started designing if she didn't live by her rules.

  3. i love her, she's a gal after my own heart as "make it yourself" kind of runs through my blood. the only thing i own of hers is one of her books of which i end up getting totally lost in the styling of her photos . . . and her outfits. i love the way she dresses too : ) love this new line xoxo

    1. Have you seen her home in Brooklyn? She really puts her stamp on everything she does. Just read on her website that she offers workshops on printmaking. I think I know now what I am wishing for my birthday...

  4. If I said I looooooooove Fishs Eddy, it would be a serious under-exaggeration! I spent the greater half of 2 hours flitting between there and ABC (with my husband trailing behind me muttering curse words). I adore the little tray you bought but I really fell hard for all the Lotta Jansdotter goodies!

  6. First of all, I am SO JEALOUS you get to pop into Fish's Eddy whenever you want. I've only ever browsed their online shop and drooled over all the goodies. I love that blue striped runner the most from the round-up, but I think I like her mission the most! Learn to do it and make what you want. Really inspiring (though I think I'm too lazy to see it through ;)

    1. You have to come to NY. First we could hit an estate sale with Santa and from there head to Fishs Eddy and the Brooklyn Flea ;)

  7. I have loved Lotta Jansdotter's stuff for a long time. I had a sewing book of hers ages ago and it was so inspiring. Not that I could reproduce a damn thing, but still! I love her aesthetic, and I'd love so see some of her stuff up close and personal. Envy. :)

    1. Oh, she has a sewing book too. When I am finally getting my sewing machine working properly and acquired more skills maybe I should look into getting that book.

  8. Gosh, I do love Lotta Jansdotter's work. She used to reside in the Bay Area, but now I think she's in your neck of the woods. What a great collaboration. Her approach to design is brilliant.

    1. I saw photos of her SF apartment when I googled for images of her place in Brooklyn. I have to admit I like everything about her. Really want to try to live by her design motto...
