mini makeover Vl - spray painted lamp base

I know you are waiting for the photos of the finished dresser, I did take a bunch last weekend but there were so many of them that I was not able to make a decision which ones to include in the post yet. Instead I am showing you a table lamp I bought at an estate sale a while back, which was pretty much picked clean because it was the last day of the sale. One of the few items left was the lamp base, it didn't look like much and I was able to get it for a couple of dollars. The metal parts were in rough condition but I really liked the white glass pieces and thought a bit of spray paint could take care of the rest. I still had black satin spray paint on hand and got right to work, not really taking good before pictures, just some I snapped with my phone so I could look at them for reference when putting the lamp base back together. Because I did not trust the old wiring I ordered new cloth covered cable on Etsy, the new lamp shade I found at Target. On the before pictures you can see that two pieces were made out of wood but they were not the same kind of wood, which lead me to the decision to paint the upper wooden part as well and I am glad I did because I like the one wooden piece in contrast to all the black and white. This was my first rewiring project, I am somewhat scared of all things that involve electricity but it was much easier than I thought, a piece of cake actually. Have you ever rewired something?

  1. I looooove the milk glass on that lamp! Good find, even when you said the pickings were slim you still managed to come out with something like that. Matte black was a good choice too for the paint. Glossy would have fought for attention with the creamy shiny glass. I've never rewired anything on my own, but I imagine as long as it's not plugged in it can't be too harrowing, right? Haha. Another great mini makeover! xo

    1. Lol, I think I can always spot something that has some kind of potential. I enjoy going on the last day because that means the best bargains but you are also always left with the things nobody like or saw any potential in. Always up for that challenge ;) xo PS. I was so scared of turning on the light and was just waiting to get an electric shock.

  3. That is cool, maybe a bit odd lamp. The lowest glass part looks like a tray. If you have the lamp on the entry or bedroom you could use it to keep earings and keys :)
I have once rewired an outdoor spotlight, I too was bit terrified by it, but I can't believe how easy it actually was.

    1. Hi, hi yes the bottom piece could definitely function as a tray or catch all of some sort.

  5. you are a magician nina! you need to have your own show on hgtv. i can never get around to "just making a flipping decision" and you always make the best choices. nice simple changes that have such a big impact. oh, if you could bottle that skill you would be a bagillionaire. with that said i love it!

and no, rewiring scares me but i do have a lamp i need to rewire. it's a cool one, i'll have to post it on instagram sometime, i think you would like it ;)

    1. Thank you Christine! Your comment made me blush. It would be awesome to make money with my ideas, maybe I should just give it a go and try it with an Etsy store. Please post your lamp! And you can rewire it yourself, at least give it a try. It was really not difficult at all.

    2. i really think you should! you have the eye and you definitely have the vision/execution down. it's such a small investment to start with etsy. i started with "just trying" because i really had nothing to lose and it worked. well, if you do and you ever have any questions about it let me know!
