ohny - lazzaro residence

Peeping tomette is back! Because I visited so many sites this past weekend I will post on a daily basis this week, at least that is what I am shooting for...

Before Santa and I headed to our shift at One Museum Mile we squeezed in visiting the Lazarro residence in the Lower East Side. The apartment was renovated in 2009 by Azin Valy from I-Beam Design for herself, her husband and their pretty impressive furniture collection. If you read my posts about last years Open House New York you might remember I visited another one of their projects, an apartment in Nolita.

Can you spot the Emmys in the pictures?

  1. Oh, but what did you think of it? I like the mid-centuryness of it a lot, but it feels a little, how can I say it, "unwarm" to me. Art on the walls? Sense of family...I don't know. I've been drawn more and more to white walls but this feels a little too white to me. You?

    1. I really like the apartment but would hang art on the walls and generally add more visual clutter like books etc. I could never live that minimal and need more stuff surrounding me ;)

  2. I like everything else except the tv -wall, so bland and dull. Looks like something from an average Finnish home.
Furniture is cool though and the kitchen.

    1. The kitchen is great and love how they added tons of storage to the place without making it look bulky...

  3. I like the big fluffy rug, although I'm sure it gets dirty so easily. It seems like something you'd like to sink your toes into

  4. I love that window nook in the kitchen and all that office storage. And the white brick wall of course. It's not overdone or crazy extravagant, but their furniture is all really nice. It's tasteful! I really love this apartment. So neat you got to snoop around!

  6. Peeping Tomette! Did you just make that up? Because it may be my new favorite title! I really like the abundance of storage in the space.

    1. Ha, ha Ada brought up that word when she commented on the previous OHNY post and it stuck with me. Can't take credit for making the word up ;)

  7. I'm enjoying all your OHNY coverage, Nina. Yes, I am a fellow Peeping Tom when it comes to looking into homes; It's why I love all the shelter magazines too. (Hello, Dwell!) Did I spot the Emmys? OH, yup, there they are. This family has an amazing chair collection!
PS~I was wondering if you and Santa would run into each other working the event. Now I know, and how fun!

    1. They definitely have great chairs, I was swooning over the swan chair. Willing my mind to find one of those on the side of the street, as you know it worked with the Saarinen chair ;)
