marni for h&m

I haven't been feeling so good the last couple of days (stomach flu), to cheer me up I looked at the upcoming Marni collection for H&M and made a wishlist of the items I would like to own. Have not been as excited about a designer collaboration since the one with Stella McCartney. Hopefully I'll be able to snatch one of the pieces from my wishlist. Would really love to get my hands on one of the maxi dresses.

Is anybody as excited about this as I am? Have you had other favorite designer collaborations or do you just not care about them?

week eight

It's Monday again...Not my favorite day of the week ;)

The past week has been pretty quiet, so I don't have really exciting photos to show you. Unfortunately my upholstery class last week got cancelled and I will not have any chair progress pictures to show you but hopefully this week I'll fight another round with my chair...

On our Sunday morning walk we saw (and smelled) this house that had a fire a week ago. Luckily nobody got seriously hurt but the house is already being demolished because the structure was damaged so badly by the fire. I can't even imagine how it must feel if you loose everything in a fire...

more neon - diy

After doing some research for the last post about neon I absolutely needed something hot pink in our house. After discovering on a recent trip to Home Depot that there is flourescent spray paint I just needed something to paint. I remembered this candleholder that I didn't use in a while, actually that had not been unpacked after moving into the house almost two years ago. He kind of reminds me of Lumière the candelabra from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Yes, I admit to watching the movie and enjoying it. I probably cried too...

If you want to try it out as well don't make the mistake I made on my first attempt. I used a dark primer, which I had on hand, on the first try and the pink just didn't want to get nice and bright. After the failed attempt I bought white primer, used it and after a couple of pink coats I got the brightness I was looking for. The color is even brighter in reality, the camera just couldn't capture it. Now I just need to find a good spot for the candelabra. I'm really digging pink right now, even got a matching cheapo nail polish for summer.

Do you have any plans to tackle a fun diy project this weekend?

pretty in (neon) pink (and yellow)

I don't know when it started but I totally love hot pink and other neon colors. It might have started when I saw the bright colored Cambridge Satchels slung around the shoulders of some girls in NYC, it brought me right back to being a teenager when neon already had been quite popular. I remember owning a midriff baring batwing number that had neon green and white stripes. Not sure what possessed me when buying it. Batwings and stripes I still love but midriff baring not so much...

Are you in on the neon trend?

week seven

Another week went by super fast...

I started filling up the picture frames I got at IKEA last week. Started my chair upholstery project and bought myself a new camera. I only browsed amazon for a new tripod because my old one broke but that one was already very old, my Dad probably bought it between 30-40 years ago and it was made in a country (GDR) that doesn't exist anymore. Still have to figure out the camera but already started playing with it. My biggest problem is that I am to impatient to read the manual and have learn by trial and error...

woman vs chair - round 1

My upholstery class started on Thursday and I stripped my chair down to the bones. The foam underneath was rotten in some parts and crumbled right off the frame. Next step is taking apart the fabric cover and create a pattern for the new fabric. After that I have to start sewing the pieces back together, which will probably be the hardest part for me...

Update will follow next week!

woman vs chair

Tomorrow I will start my very first upholstery class and I am already super excited.

I found the side chair by Eero Saarinen for Knoll a while back on ebay and was able to get it for a great price. It looks much better in photos than it does in real life. The fabric is stained and ripped in some places and it makes a crunchy sound when you sit on it. Wonder what kind of grossness I will discover when taking the old fabric off. The new fabric will be Knoll Classic Bouclé in the color smoke, another great ebay find. You can see a sample of it in the last picture. So far I have only spend about a quarter of what a brand new chair would cost and that is including the upholstery class, which will also come in handy for future projects. I probably have to pay the rest in blood, sweat and tears...

Will it be woman versus chair or chair versus woman? Either way let the battle begin...

This past week was also about spreading some love amongst blogger friends and Erin from like/want/need nominated me for a Liebster Blog award.  Liebster is the German word for beloved or favorite. The Liebster Blog award is passed from one blog to the other to honor your favorite, smaller blogs (ones with less than 200 followers) and once chosen, you get to bestow it on other bloggers...

So now I get the honor to nominate my five favorites:

A76 of a can do it (my first blogging friend)
 Santa of homestilo
Heather of it's so suburban

Ladies now you can go on an spread some love as well!

keep calm

Photobucket

This was my mantra for the last couple of days. Thursday night while working on new blog posts my computer got infected with a virus. It's not working at all, can't open any files or programs so after an initial panic reaction I turned it off and called a friend for help. Unfortunately he is away for the weekend but he'll try to fix it tomorrow. If that doesn't work I luckily backed up everything last week so lost data would be minimal. In the meantime I resurrected my old laptop and can't believe how sloooow it is...

Yesterday my husband went grocery shopping and I asked him to bring home some tea for me. He got this one because he thought I might enjoy the retro packaging and I do!

coat racks

This post comes a little late and I already got a new coat rack for the entry vestibule but I wanted to share some inspiration pictures I collected while looking for a new coat rack anyways. They are all nice in their own way but the yellow ribbon really strikes a chord with me. As of late I'm obsessing about bright colors and straying from my usual go to colors of white, grey and black.

week five

Another week just flew by...

Tuesday I went to see Sleep No More a play like I've never seen before. Loved the whole idea, the setting and the mood but have to admit I couldn't quite catch up on the story. The audience can wander around an abandoned hotel and stumbles across the actors and then can choose to follow them as they make their way around the hotel. At first I thought it might be too scary for me especially with the masks that the audience is wearing. In the distance some people looked like Michael Myers but as you can see in the picture below I look more like a duck...Duckface alert ;)

The weekend I spent at a friends house in upstate NY with group of friends. Lots of good eating and snowboarding although we haven't gotten any 'real' snow yet.
